Out of touch?

I had been seeing rumours of a story flying around on twitter most afternoon/early evening, After thinking that "it can`t be true" and "that would be bonkers" i thought i would have look to see if i could find anything to back it up.

Well, here we go.

A story in the Salford Star says :

"Salford Council voted to ratify the £69,000 salary of the Mayor and £44,850 salary of the Deputy Mayor today with the huge Labour majority voting in favour and the small Conservative opposition voting against, calling it "obscene"

He must have forgotten his slogan on the Labour North West  website, its says :

    "With you in tough times"

Indeed Mayor Stewart.

Update : I just had a look at UK Parliament website, they say :

" On 8 February 2012 IPSA announced that Members’ pay would remain frozen at £65,738 for 2012/13."

That is the salary for a backbench MP (without expenses).

Update 2 : I just had a look to see what the salary of last council leader was so checked the respected Manchester Evening News and this was what i found :

"The figure almost DOUBLE the allowance given to John Merry, the council`s last leader, who last year received £38,265."
ependent pay panel has recommended the figure for Ian Stewart after consulting
