The John Terry Affair

Its Friday the 13th, unlucky for some. But not John Terry today.

John Terry was found not guilty at court today for a public order offense. This is a case that should have never gone to court, This should have been dealt with by the FA (like in the Luis Suarez case) and coupled with the same or similar punishment.

However, I do have a few problems with this whole "offensive" speech law. As you know i have written about freedom of speech many times and my views on it remain clear and consistent.

John Terry may come across as an unpleasant person and one you wouldn't leave you wife/girlfriend alone with but he has the same rights to freedom of speech and a fair trail as everyone else.

"I despise what you say, but i will defend to the death your right to say it"

Before anyone says i am sitting on the fence on this because i say he should face punishment from FA, i would point out that i am sure all players sign a form agreeing to Premier league rules/FA rules on behavior on the pitch (which no doubts includes offensive/racist language).

No doubt tho that if the FA find John Terry they might fine him a tad more than £2500.
