Freedom of speech

It`s Kebab Time so lets reflect on a major story this week.

Liam Stacey was sentenced to 56 days in prison this week for writing offensive tweets. Now i saw some of thse tweets and they were offensive, idiotic and written by a moron, but 56 days in prison.

Where are we going with this?

What happens to those that send offensive tweets to government? are they next?

I see lots of football tweets on my twitter thread and the tweets against Liam Stacey were filled with death threats and calls to lock him up ( Irony will set in at some stage).

"I may detest what you say but i will defend to the death your right to say it"

Where have we gone wrong?

  2. Short, punchy and to the point - the way blogs should be. I'll get the hang of it one day!

  3. Excellent subject! I think if Twitter starts almost censoring people & prosecuting them like this then none of us are safe! I mean, his comments were vile but the rest of Twitter hounded the living snot out of him & that was just as bad. He's been used as an example, that's all. Happy to see you joining the blogging ranks with the rest of us, Billy! Cyd xxx

  6. I agree with CYdara he was used as an example but i think a trip down to the london chest hospital and for liam to say sorry to the player would be a better punishment. He is now inside for 2 months or less and who is paying to keep him there while violent thugs are allowed to walk our streets.... MILES NOT KNIVES

  7. People always take the piss out of Guido and you've always told them to start their own blog. Nice to see you've taken your own advice. I look forward to finding out what you've got to say, about politics or cricket. Something tells me you will wield a mean bat either way.

    2. The only thing that puzzles me is the time stamp of all our posts. It is the same as Pakistani time (or Maldives). I went to look out of the window but I am still by the Adriatic...!

    4. Looks like US West Coast time to me -- 8 hours earlier than UK time. Which is what you'd expect for something to do with computers. This is sent at 12.15 am on 29 March, so I think its time stamp will be 4.15 pm the 28th.

    5. Oops! I appear to have become entangled in one of the eleven dimensions of spacetime, the one where time goes backwards.

  9. One of my favorite topics.

The only kind of speech that ever gets banned is the kind that offends someone. There were people who were extremely offended by "no taxation without representation" and "all men are created equal." As a matter of fact, there are still people like that.

  10. Well done, Billy, and keep it up. Cheering to think that if you have your own blog, no one can pretend to be you.

  12. Heh heh, Kebab Time? Where did that come from?

Good first blog tho on a very important topic. I didn't see his Tweets but whatever he said, almost two months in jail for it is ludicrous. Makes me seriously worry about our society.
